Handmade embroidery is a very old and demanding technique. It has been used for flags, standards, pictures and ornaments from time immemorial.

Hand embroidery was known in China since the prehistoric period already. Some 3 600 years old hand embroidered works were found in India and Egypt. In Europe, embroidery techniques came in use at in the 1st century A.D. The oldest preserved item is a tapestry in Bayeux (France) from the 11th century, which is 70 m long and 50 cm wide. Handmade embroidery and crumpling was known in Bohemia as early as in the 12th century at the court, in cloisters, and in burgher houses.
At that time, the convent of St. George in Prague had even its own school of textile arts.
In the Renaissance period, the so-called white embroidery developed on paraments, as well as on underwear, handkerchiefs, tablecloths and table covers. The art of the handmade embroidery is now slowly disappearing. In the first half of the 19th century, the embroidering machine was invented, which considerably accelerated the embroidering process. Nowadays, automatic embroidering machines are able to work at 1500 stitches per minute, can be complemented with various automation elements and are controlled by computers. Our workshops are able to offer you traditional handmade embroidery - the artistic, carefully made work suitable for your most prestigious form of presentation. Handmade embroidery is very time-consuming and this needs to be considered in terms of delivery time. It is usually used only to add decorations to the classic machine embroidery and emphasise the details of the embroidered motive. This way, the automatic machine embroidery is upgraded to a higher level.
